Activities of Flood Management Organisation
Flood Management (FM)–I Directorate
FM-I directorate is responsible for Planning & Appraisal of Flood Management, Flood Control, Anti-erosion, River Training Works etc. pertaining to States except Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram & Nagaland and recommendation to TAC-MOWR;Monitoring of ongoing works and release of funds; compilation of physical and financial progress of ongoing flood management works under Flood Management Programme related to concerned States; Field inspection/ site visits to the newly proposed Flood Control schemes by the States; Standing Committees –Yamuna Standing Committee, Sahibi Standing Committee, Ghaggar Standing Committee and the Committee on special Remedial Works for flood protection along Satluj and Ravi rivers; Compilation/ Publication of Minutes of Meetings of above Standing Committees.
Flood Management-U Directorate
FM-II Directorate is responsible for assessment of Flood Prone Area in India based on the methodology decided by the Expert Committee on Scientific Assessment of Flood Prone Area in India; Coordination with Member Secretaries
of Regional Committees for Scientific Assessment of Flood Prone Area in the States for obtaining data and other studies done by Regional Committees; Obtaining flood forecasting models developed by P&D Directorate and FCA Directorate and Utilization of developed models for assessment of flood
prone area in that basin/sub basin; Obtaining flood forecasting model developed by the Consultants in Ganga basin and its utilization for assessment of flood prone area in Ganga basin.
Flood Management Planning (FMP) Directorate
FMP Directorate is responsible for Planning & Appraisal of Flood Management, Flood Control, Anti erosion works, River Training Works, promotion of latest state of the-art techniques in the field of river training works etc. pertaining to States- Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram & Nagaland; Compilation of physical and financial progress of ongoing flood management works under Flood Management Programme related to concerned States; Works related to Brahmaputra Board; River Management Activities & Works related to Border area plan scheme. It will also function as secretariat for Flood Plain Zoning. This Dte will act as Nodal directorate for FMO.
Flood Forecast Management (FFM) Directorate
FFM Directorate is responsible for Monitoring of Flood situation through Central Flood Control Room and issue of flood situation reports during monsoon period; And for installation of telemetry on the sites under field organizations and other works related to Flood Forecasting; Compilation and Publication of state-wise Flood damage Statistics; suggest optimum density of rain gauge network in a basin to upgrade FF activity; undertakes activity like Update and publication of Flood Forecasting Manual'; supports NDMA in formulation of Emergency Action Plan with regard to flood induced disasters; initiate linking flood forecast with probable areas likely to come under inundationnual Flood Forecast Appraisal Report; Coordination Flood Control Applications Directorate is responsible for development of mathematical models for food forecasting, inflow forecasting and river engineering studies for Ganga, Brahmaputra, Barak Godavari and Mahanadi basin sinitiate studies on ensemble forecast; Monitoring of mathematical models being used by ewc field offices for flood forecasting Assist FM-II directorate in assessing of Flood Prone Area in the above basins.
