Shri Narendra Kumar, Chairman, Central Water Commission has done graduation in Civil Engineering from IIT, Roorkee and M.Tech (Structure) from IIT, Delhi.

Shri Kumar belongs to the Central Water Engineering (Group'A')Service. He joined Central Water Commission in June, 1981 and has over 36 years of experience in water sector, having worked in various capacities in the Central Water Commission, namely, Design Organisation as Assistant Director and Project Appraisal in the capacity as Deputy Director. As a Director, he worked on Dam Safety, Project Monitoring and Brahmaputra & Barak Basin Organisation. He also worked in the CAD Wing of the Ministry as Senior Joint Commissioner and in the B & B Wing as Commissioner.

 

He took over the charge of Member (River Management) in October 2014 and continued till 1st March, 2017. During his tenures as Member(RM), he was responsible for collection, compilation, storage and retrieval of hydrological and hydro-meteorological data including water quality monitoring and issue of flood forecast on all major flood-prone rivers and selected important reservoirs, providing guidance to States in technical matters on different aspects of river and flood management in the country. He also served as Chairman/ Team Leader of Indo-Nepal Team of Expert on Reservoir Regulation Committee, Yamuna Standing Committee, Standing Committee of Experts for Protection of Majuli Island in Assam.

 

He has taken over as Chairman, Central Water Commission on 2nd March, 2017.
