MorphoIogy & aimate Change Directorate
Morphology Directorate is to assist BPMO in water balance studies and integrated basin; to deal with matters involving Inland water way navigation and related matters; Morphological and sedimentation studies of all river basins in the country. It functions to assist National Water Mission (NWM) in pursuance of its short and long-term goals; preparation of physical and financial progress report of various activities identified under National Water Mission; implementation of various strategies under National Water Mission. It will initiate studies relating to impact of Climate change on water resources/crop yield/evaporation rate/glacial retreat etc.; Monitoring of glacial lakes and water bodies including snow melt modeling. It will also act as Nodal directorate for P&D Organization.
River Data Compilation (ROC) -1 Directorate
RDC Directorate is responsible for Maintenance of unmerged cadre of the GBWRO Ministerial Staff viz. Amendment of Recruitment Rules, maintenance of Reservation Roster, Promotion, transfer and posting, grant of financial up gradation under ACP/MACP scheme, fixation of pay, maintenance of the CR folders, VIP references, Court/CAT cases; Standardization of procedures and equipment for hydro-logical, sediment and water quality observations; matters related to opening of new HO sites/review of continuation of existing HO sites, invitation of Tenders/Procurement's for various activities under WRIS component. This Dte will also act as nodal unit in CWC to coordinate and advance technical activities of NHP in close coordination with RD-2 Dte to speed up implementation of NHP. Responsible for all tenders/procurement's related to NHP.
River Data Compilation (ROC) - 2 Directorate
The broad objectives of this Dte is to act as a store house of knowledge of latest hydro-logical observation technique- both in data collection and its validation to devise standard format for Water Year book holding water level and corresponding discharge data generated after secondary validation; to ensure further consolidation of gains of Hydrology Project-I & II to focus itself on quality concern of hydro-meteorological data, preparation of manuals for hydrological observation works. to process and disseminate classified data of Ganga, Indus & Brahmaputra basins to bonafide users following the MoWR guidelines; running and maintenance of National Surface Water Data Centre periodically bring out or update manuals/ guidelines/ quick start guide to ensure capacity building of our officers engages in data collection activity; publish major findings/trends etc. in WQ parameters, discharge of major river stream, upgradation/degradation of longitudinal profile of river; works towards capacity building of CWC officials; introduces new concept/methods in HO works; providing inputs and assistance to CWC field organisations in carrying out trend analysis of long term river flow data sets, development and validation on regular basis (say annual) of stage discharge relationships; coordinate activities of the sub-committee SC-l of TC-113of ISO on Velocity Area method/BIS matters; preparation and updating of computerized hydrological database for hydrological sites of CWC on e-SWIS/SWDES; preparation of combined catalog of meta data of surface water sites, its periodical updating and hoisting of the sameon India-WRIS web-site. This Dte will act.as nodal unit in CWC to coordinate and advance the activities related to NMCG. This Dte will also be the repository of invaluable materials, such as major water resources projects already completed/under construction/contemplated; status of water quality of main stem of river Ganga and its tributaries, and of important water bodies; major pollution contributing Industries/Industrial clusters; no. of Sewage Treatment Plants operational in the basin; status of ground water availability- over exploited or critical zones; best practices across the globe to keep river bodies sustainable, etc. The Dte will also feed its information to India-WRIS team to keep updating/populating relevant pages on the website.This repository helps in informed decision making for implementation of works planned under NMCG. It will strive for developing water quality models for severely/moderately affected river stretches in the basin as well using appropriate soft-tools. It will work in tandem with TC Dte to lift awareness among people in the basin to adopt eco-friendly measures for healthy river eco-system. Ramsar Convention on wet lands, details of wetland in India covered under it.Constitutional provision that deal with environment. Industrial/urban sewage pollution status – linkages with CPCB/SPCB to develop effective monitoring of point and non point pollution. Coordination of all activities regarding National River Conservation Plan and National Ganga River activity pertaining to Ministry of Water Resources& CWC
Coastal Management Directorate :
Coastal Management Directorate is responsible for planning & appraisal of coastal erosion schemes; Compilation of Coastal Erosion data of Maritime States; Development of Coastal Management Information System (CMIS); Secretariat to Coastal Protection and Development Advisory Committee (CPDAC); Climate Resilient Coastal Protection & Management Project; Monitoring of externally assisted Sustainable Coastal Protection and Management Investment Projects; Works related to Task force for holistic development of 1200 inhabited/uninhabited Islands; desalination of sea water to augment water resources availability. Matters related to preparation of report and secretariat work of study of secretariat work of study on salinity ingress in coastal areas.
