- The organisation is headed by a Chief Engineer who is assisted by Superintending Engineer (Co- ordination)
- The Organisation consists of Cauvery & Southern Rivers Circle headed by a Superintending Engineer at Bengaluru, a Monitoring Directorate at Coimbatore and Beach Erosion Directorate at Kochi, both headed by Directors
- Under the 3rd Cadre Review and Regionalization of CWC, two Directorates, namely, Beach Erosion Directorate at Kochi and Monitoring Directorate at Coimbatore were opened in the year 1995 under the administrative control of C&SRO, CWC,Coimbatore
- A new Division, namely Hydrology Division was opened at Chennai in the year 1997
Jurisdiction :
The jurisdiction of CSRO covers the States / UTs of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Lakshadweep Islands & Andaman & Nicobar Islands. As regards the Hydrological Observations on the river basins,CSRO deals with Cauvery Basin, Pennar Basin, Tungabhadra Sub-Basin of Krishna Basin, East flowing rivers below Pennar to Cauvery & below Cauvery to Kanyakumari & West flowing rivers below Goa to Kanyakumari.
