Functions of Yamuna Basin Organisation

  • Hydrological observation, collection and Compilation of data.
  • Maintaining & operating the Flood Forecasting Network.
  • Water Quality Monitoring.
  • Monitoring of Major& Medium Projects under General, AIBP, National Projects and CADWM
  • Appraisal of Medium Irrigation Projects in Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal.
  • Appraisal and Monitoring of Schemes under RRR of Uttar Pradesh.

The Circle Office with two Divisions at Dehradun and Lucknow operates 39 Hydrological Observation Stations. In these stations, hydrological observations, collection and compilation of data regarding Gauge, Discharge, Sediment and Water Quality (GDSQ) are being carried out. Flood Forecasting Activities are also carried out in the Ganga, Ramganga & Gomati Basin.

The Circle Office with two Divisions at Varanasi and Lucknow operates 54 Hydrological Observation Stations. In these stations, hydrological observations, collection and compilation of data regarding Gauge, Discharge, Sediment and Water Quality (GDSQ) are being carried out. Flood Forecasting Activities are also carried out in the Ganga, Sharda, Saryu & Ghaghara Basin.

  1. Hydrological Observation Circle, Dehradun
    1. Himalayan Ganga Division, Dehradun with three Sub-divisions at Haridwar, Srinagar &Tehri operates 17 Hydrological Observation Stations in the State of Uttarakhand.
    2. Middle Ganga Division-II, Lucknow with four Sub-divisions at Lucknow, Kanpur Moradabad & Bareilly operates 22 Hydrological Observation Stations in the State of Uttar Pradesh & Uttarakhand.
  2.  Hydrological Observation Circle, Varanasi
    1. Middle Ganga Division-I, Lucknow with three Sub-divisions at Haldwani, Gorakhpur & Gonda operates 29 Hydrological Observation Stations in the State of Uttar Pradesh & Uttarakhand.
    2. Middle Ganga Division-III, Varanasi with three Sub-divisions at Varanasi, Allahabad & Rewa operates 25 Hydrological Observation Stations in the State of Uttar Pradesh Chhattisgarh & Madhya Pradesh.
  3. Monitoring & Appraisal Directorate, Lucknow
    • General monitoring of ongoing irrigation projects.
    • Monitoring of projects implemented under AIBP/ National Project.
    • Monitoring of works executed under CADWM Programme.
    • Monitoring & Appraisal of works taken under Repair, Renovation and Restoration (RRR) of water bodies.
    • Appraisal of Medium and Minor Irrigation Projects and preparation of draft TAC for Medium Irrigation Projects.
    •  Coordination with the State Governments on matters relating to Monitoring and Appraisal and other issues referred by CWC / MoWR
