• The organization is headed by a Chief Engineer who is assisted by Superintending Engineer (Co- ordination).
• The Organisation consists of two Hydrological Observation Circle headed by Superintending Engineer at Dehradun and Varanasi and Monitoring & Appraisal Directorate headed by Director at Lucknow.

Jurisdiction :

• The jurisdiction of Upper Ganga Basin covers the States of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh & Madhya Pradesh. As regards the Hydrological Observations & Flood Forecasting on the river basins, UGBO deals with the upper reaches of Ganga Basin (excluding Yamuna Basin) upto Ballia, including the main Ganga River and its tributaries Ramganga, Sharda, Gomti, Rapti, Ghaghra, Tons, Sone etc.
