Dam safety Monitoring (DSM) Directorate:
DSM directorate is responsible for assisting the States in implementing unified dam safety procedures, matters related to Emergency Action Plans (EAPs), Dam safety Organizations etc. This directorate also functions as secretariat for National Committee on Dam Safety (NCDS) which is a forum for discussions on dam safety issues among the Central, State Govt. and dam owning agencies. DSM directorate maintains National Registration of Large Dams (NRLD) and handles issues related to Supervisory Committee of Mullaperiyar Dam, PAP Sub-committee etc. involving dam safety related interstate issues between the state of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It acts as a nodal Directorate of DSO

Foundation Engineering & Special Analysis (FE&SA) Directorate:
FE&SA directorate is responsible for technical appraisal of DPRs (all regions) on seismic and foundation aspects and finalizing seismic design parameters of river valley projects, dam break& backwater analysis, Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF), Secretarial works of National Committee on Design Parameters (NCSDP), Nodal Directorate for Water Resources Division Council (WRDC) of BIS, Central Geological Programming Board (CGPB), National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM).

Instrumentation Directorate:
Instrumentation, directorate is responsible for planning and design of instrumentation system for hydraulic structures for river valley projects. Instrumentation Demonstration Centre which consists of instruments and models for River Valley Projects at CWC headquarters is also entrusted to this directorate. Matters related to Strengthen of Instrumentation of large dams, matters related to strengthening of seismic instrumentation as per the decision of National Committee on Seismic Design Parameter (NCSDP), this Directorate would coordinate activities of the Organization for keeping a watch on latest development/identification of stress areas in the field of Dam Safety and identifying areas of Research in the sphere of activities and carrying out research in house/by other agencies by respective directorates by holding regular organization meetings in this regard and informing the details to the Committee on Civil and Hydro Mechanical Designs for further deliberations. This Directorate would submit agenda points to D&R Coordination Dte. for consideration/deliberation of Members in a Commission Meeting. Suggest measures for possible realignment of Organization activities/capacity building of its Human resources etc.

Dam Safety Rehabilitation (DSR) Directorate:
Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) have been taken up with World Bank assistance. 225 dam projects in 7 states i.e. Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand are being rehabilitated. The projects' overall co-ordinations are being carried out by Central Project Management Unit constituted in DSR directorate. Although, services of an Engineering & Management Consultancy is available in support of CPMU, yet major workload of co-ordination with the nine Implementing Agencies , the World Bank, DEA and the MOWR, RD&GR is directly borne by the DSR Directorate Officials. The DSR directorate is fully engaged with its original mandate of Safety, Inspection & Rehabilitation of Dams allover India. In addition, the crucial works related to Dam Safety Bill is also fully handled by this directorate.

Software Management Directorate:
Software Management is the nodal unit for IT system of Central Water Commission at CWC HQ. This directorate is responsible for procurement/ providing hardware and software support including up gradation, network and internet management, procurement of computer hardware and software and consumables for CWC and maintaining CWC website. Apart from above, another major work being done by SMD Directorate is development of software application as per requirement of CWC. As no specialized IT Staff is available in SMD, the work of development is being done externally by inviting quotations through open tenders. Director SMD is the nodal officer for e-governance for Central Water Commission. Management of NIC mail IDs of more than three thousand employees, management of password of APAR management system bio data management system, daily uploading circulars on CWC website etc., are also undertaken in SM Directorate. This directorate is tasked to keep updating CWC webpage in accordance with inputs received from TC-l Directorate.
