Organization contains following Directorates and their activities are as under:

  1. Hydel Civil Design (HCD) Directorate:

    Hydel Civil Design (NW&S) Directorate has been entrusted with the responsibility of examining Hydro civil aspect of various projects being submitted by Central and State Agencies apart from acting as Review consultant for the referred project. In addition, Design and Drawings for the Special problems being faced by Project authorities are also being carried out in this Directorate. As for BIS works, Director, HCD(NW&S) directorate is Principal Member of CED 54 " Concrete Reinforcement", and Principal Member of CED 56" Hill Area Development Engineering". In addition, nodal directorate works are also carried out by this directorate.

  2. CMDD Directorate:
    This Directorate has the following main functions:
    1. Designing civil components of Concrete & Masonry dams, diversion and appurtenant structures.
    2. Technical examination of Detailed Project Reports (DPR) of Water Resources Projects.
    3. Special problems during construction and post construction period including rehabilitation of dams.

    As for BIS Works Director CMDD (NW&S) is associated with the following committees of BIS:

    1. Principal Member of WRD-9 "Dams and Spillways"
    2. Alternate Member of CED 2 "Cement and Concrete Sectional Committee"; CED2.1"Cement, Pozzolona and Cement Additives Sub-Committee"; CED2.2 "Panel for revision of IS-457". Nodal Office of Civil Engineering Division Council (CEDC).
  3. Embankment Directorate:
    This directorate has the following main functions:
    1. Designing civil components of Rock fill & Earth dams, diversion and appurtenant structures.
    2. Design aspects of new projects referred by state governments/ public sector undertakings/ centrally sponsored projects for technical examination.
    3. Assistance to the Bureau of Indian Standards in the preparation of various Indian Standards pertaining to river valley projects.
    4. Special problems during construction and post construction period including rehabilitation of dams.

    As for BIS WORKS; Director, Embankment Dams (NW&S) Directorate is Principal Member of WRD 25 BIS Committee on Geo-synthetics Alternative Member of BIS Committee CED37 i.e. on Standardization in the field of Structural Safety including Loading Standards.

  4. Gates Design Directorate:

    This Directorate has been providing preliminary and detailed design consultancy services in respect of hydro-mechanical equipments to various water resources projects of the country. Besides design consultancy of new projects, consultancy services are also being rendered to the various special problems of existing projects referred to CWC by State Governments. Technical appraisal of projects in respect of future projects is also being carried out and comments are being offered for improvements to be made in detailed project reports. Other works include preparation of manuals & pamphlets, assistance to Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in preparation of Codes etc. As regards BIS Works, Director, Gates Design (NW&S) Directorate is entrusted to the works relating to formulation/review/amendments of Indian standards under CED-7& WRD12 as assigned by BIS.

  5. BCD Directorate:

    BCD (NW&S) directorate has been entrusted with the responsibility of examining barrage and canal aspects of various projects reports, being submitted by various central and state agencies (12 states from northwest and south regions) apart from acting as review consultant/consultant for the referred projects. In additional, design and drawings for the special problems being faced by project authorities are also being carried out in this directorate. This Directorate would coordinate the activities of the Organization for keeping a watch on latest development/identification of stress areas particularly in Dam Design/Design of Hydro Power Projects and identifying areas of Research in the sphere of activities and carrying out research in house/by other agencies by respective directorates by holding regular organization meetings in this regard and informing the details to the Committee on Civil and Hydro Mechanical Designs. This Directorate would submit agenda points to D&R Coordination Dte for consideration/deliberation of Members in a Commission Meeting. Suggest measures for possible realignment of Organization activities/capacity building of its Human resources etc.
