Monitoring Directorate has been entrusted with the work of Monitoring of Major/Medium and Minor Irrigation Projects under PMKSY of Bihar State. The broad function of this Directorate is as under-

  • Examination/Scrutiny/ Recommendation of release of Central Assistance Proposal from State Government as per latest AIBP-PMKSY guideline of MoWR, RD & GR.
  • Examination/Scrutiny/ Recommendation of proposal for release of Central Assistance of State Government in respect of Renovation, Repair, Restoration (RRR) of Water Bodies and Minor Irrigation schemes under PMKSY guideline of MoWR, RD & GR.
  • Examination/Scrutiny/ Recommendation of Proposals in respect of Command Area Development and Water Management (CADWM) Irrigation Project of Bihar State.
  • Preparation of reports of projects related to PMKSY based on field visits of projects/ schemes in Bihar.

Monitoring Directorate also deals with the work of hydrological observation and flood forecasting activities. It has two divisions namely Lower Ganga Division 1 & Lower Ganga Division 2, Patna which in turn are entrusted with following function-

  • Carrying out hydrological observation on 127 no. of sites on various rivers in the state of Bihar & Jharkhand and publication of water year book
  • Flood forecasting work of 49 no of sites in Bihar & Jharkhand and publication of flood appraisal report.
  • Water quality monitoring of rivers.
  • Cross Sectional survey for Morphological studies of Ganga, Gandak, Kosi ,Ghaghra& Mahananda Rivers.

Apart from above stated functions following administrative work is also executed by Monitoring Directorate-

  • Recruitment/Appointment of work charged staff.
  • Establishment matters related to wok charge staff.
