Gosikhurd National Irrigation Project, Maharashtra

The Gosikhurd Project is a major multipurpose project in Eastern Vidarbha and is situated in Bhandara District of Maharashtra State.  The Project envisages construction of an earthen dam 11.35 km. long with radial gated spillway across Wainganga River near village Gosikhurd in Pauni Taluka, Bhandara District. The project envisages the construction of following components:

Renovation of existing Asolamendha Tank & Canal System

The project will provide irrigation benefits to 2,50,800 ha (Ultimate Irrigation Potential).The irrigable command area of the project is 1,90,000 ha. The project proposes to install hydropower with power generation capacity of 0.5 MW & 2.5 MW at head regulators of LBC and RBC respectively. The project is to provide 23.69 Mm3 of water to Jawaharnagar Ordnance Factory near Bhandara.

The project was given investment clearance by Planning Commission in the year 2008 for Rs.7777.85 crore. Latest estimated cost of the project is reported to be Rs.18494.57 crore. The project was included in AIBP in the year 1997 and received Central Assistance under AIBP from 1997 to December, 2008. Later on the project was included in the scheme of National Projects in the year 2008-09

Inclusion as National Project

The project was included under National Project during the year 2008-09. Total amount of Rs.2987.94 crore was released to the project since then.

Out of latest estimated cost of Rs.18494.57 crore, the cost of AIBP components is Rs.12770.09 crore (FTPC). Out of this an expenditure of Rs.6550.557 crore has been incurred on AIBP components of the project till October 2017.

The ultimate irrigation potential of the project is 2, 50,800 ha. Irrigation potential created up to October 2017 is 62263 ha. The ultimate potential creation under National Project is 222997 ha. Out of this, potential of 42544 ha is reported to creation till October 2017.

The project authorities have submitted the proposal for CADWM works of Gosikhurd National Project for Rs. 780.2812 crore for Cultivable Command Area (CCA) of 200000 ha. However, CWC, Headquarters New Delhi has requested to recast the proposal based on Irrigable Command Area (ICA) of 190000 ha. The revised proposal is awaited from the project authorities.
