Water Quality Monitoring:

The Wainganga Water Quality Laboratory (WWQL), Monitoring Central Organization, Central Water Commission, Nagpur is a Level – II Laboratory to carry out physical and chemical analysis of major and minor inorganic constituents, biological and microbiological parameters in water samples collected from water quality sites situated at Wainganga river basin of India.

Wainganga Water Quality Laboratory:

  • The Wainganga Water Quality Laboratory (WWQL), at Nagpur has sophisticated equipment supported by automation.
  • It has been made as the ‘Level II Laboratory’ to ensure uniformity in physico-chemical and biological analysis of surface waters in Wainganga Basin.
  • The laboratory has facilities and capabilities to determine water quality constituents including Physical, and bacteriological parameters.
  • Preparation of the Status Reports of Wainganga Rivers and its tributaries Rivers.

A three-tier network of Water Quality monitoring station has been implanted by CWC all over India. However Wainganga Division maintains two tier network of Water Quality monitoring stations. This network comprise 15 Level-I labs where six parameters viz. temperature, colour, odour, specific conductivity, pH and dissolved Oxygen are observed. These Level-I Laboratories also collect river water sample  and send it to Level-II Lab which is located at Divisional Headquarter in Nagpur, Level II lab carries out  tests for 25 additional physico-chemical characteristics and bacteriological parameters. In addition, samples for testing heavy metal/trace toxic parameters and pesticides are periodically sent to Level-III labs located at ‘National River Water Quality Laboratory (NRWQL), CWC, Hyderabad’. Earlier such samples were beling tested at ‘National River Water Quality Laboratory (NRWQL), CWC, New Delhi.

A professionally qualified and experienced person designated as Research Officer, supervises the functioning of Wainganga Water Quality Laboratory. The analytical work is carried out by professionally qualified personnel and managed by a team of highly experienced scientific staff in such a way as to meet the requirements of the international standards and satisfy needs of the scientific officer, regulatory authorities and organization. The Laboratory carries out the testing activities in such a way to meet the requirements of NABL, ISO/IEC 17025: 2017.
