Indus Basin Organization at a glance
Central Water Commission is a premier technical organization of India in the field of Water Resources and is presently functioning as an attached office of the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India. In order to achieve better results in the water resource sector and have better co-ordination with the State Government Departments, CWC has established thirteen regional offices called field organizations, each headed by a Chief Engineer.
Indus Basin Organisation (IBO) is one of the thirteen regional organizations of the Central Water Commission. It is a field unit of the River Management(RM) Wing. The organization is headed by a Chief Engineer and consists of three Monitoring and Appraisal Directorates located at Chandigarh, Jammu and Shimla each headed by a Director. There is one Monitoring Directorate located at Faridabad and headed by a Director.There is one Superintending Engineer Co-ordination to provide assistance to Chief Engineer, IBO at Chandigarh. The Monitoring and Appraisal Directorates at Jammu and Shimla are also responsible for collection, compilation, storage and retrieval of hydrological and hydro-meteorological data including water quality monitoring, formulation and issue of flood forecast on Jhelum, Chenab, Beas, Satluj rivers. Monitoring and Appraisal Directorates of the organisation deals with techno-economic appraisal of medium projects received from the Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu &Kashmir State Government, Monitoring of schemes under Centrally Sponsored Command Area Development(CAD) Programme, Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme(AIBP), Revival and Restoration of Water Bodies, all pertaining to Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu &Kashmir States.

The Indus Basin Organisation (IBO) of the CWC with its headquarters at Chandigarh is headed by a Chief Engineer. It has its jurisdiction extending in Four states & U.T of Chandigarh viz J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana.
