MTBO (Mahi & Tapi basin Organization) is one of the 14 regional offices of CWC with headquarters at Gangdhinagar, Gujarat. Hydrological Observation and Flood Forecasting activities in the west flowing important rivers at stations located in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh & U.T. of Daman and Diu & Dadra Nagar Haveli are carried out by MTBO, CWC along-with techno-economic appraisal of medium water resources projects and monitoring of major and medium projects located in Gujarat. MTBO, CWC is also involved in establishment of sites for collection of coastal data under Coastal Management Information System (CMIS). MTBO, CWC also carries out morphological studies for Tapi river.
The MTBO is headed by a Chief Engineer reporting to Member (RM) for administrative and Hydrological Observation as well as Flood Forecasting activities and Member (WP & P) for other projects related activities. This Organization consist of:
An officer designated as Superintending Engineer heads the Hydrlogical Observation Circle whereas officer designated as Director - head the Monitoring directorate. Under the Hydrological Observation Circle, there are two divisions,namely:
- Mahi Division, Gandhinagar
- Tapi Division, Surat.
There are 4 subdisions under Mahi division & 5 subdivisions under Tapi division.
