So far as the appraisal and monitoring of water resources projects is concerned, the jurisdiction is Sikkim and West Bengal. International cooperation in sharing of data with Bhutan and Bangladesh is also handled by TBO.
Question 2: What type of hydro-meteorological data is collected/ observed by CWC?
Answer: The hydro-meteorological data collected/observed by CWC are as under:
- River Water Level (Gauge, G)
- River Discharge (Discharge, D)
- Sediment Flow (Silt, S)
- River Water Quality (Quality, Q)
- Rainfall
- River Temperature
- Ambient temperature
Besides the above, TBO also observes other hydro-meteorological parameters such as rainfall (RF), maximum-minimum temperature (MMT) at some selected site.
Question 3: What is the frequency of hydro-meteorological data collection observation in CWC?
Answer: The general hydro-meteorological data collection/observation frequency is as under:
- River Water Level (Gauge, G) (monsoon)
: Hourly (24 x 7)
- River Water Level (Gauge, G)
(non-monsoon)
: Daily at 8:00, 13:00 & 18:00 hrs
- River Discharge (Discharge, D)
: Daily
- Sediment Flow (Silt, S)
: Daily
- River Water Quality (Quality, Q)
: Ten-daily/monthly
- X-Sections of rivers
: Pre-monsoon and post monsoon
- Meteorological data
- Rainfall (Ordinary Raingauge)
- Rainfall (Tipping bucket)
: Daily/hourly
: Daily (Frequency increases in case of heavy rainfall)
:Hourly
Question 4: What is the classification of hydro-meteorological data collected/ observed by CWC?
Answer: From the point of data dissemination, the country has been divided in to three regions:
- Region-I :
Indus basin & other rivers and their tributaries discharging into Pakistan
- Region-II :
Ganga-Brahmaputra-Meghna basin & other rivers and their tributaries discharging into Bangladesh/Myanmar; and
- Region-III:
Remaining other rivers and their tributaries.
Question 5: What type of hydro-meteorological data is collected/ observed under TBO as per data dissemination policy?
Answer: The hydro-meteorological data collected/observed under TBO are as classified under Region-II and is therefore disseminated under secrecy undertaking and approved by a Classified Data Release Committee.
Question 6: What are the river basins under the jurisdiction of TBO, Kolkata?
Answer: Teesta River along with other sub-basins of Brahmaputra, such as Jaldhaka, Torsa, Raidak & Sankosh and upper Mahananda sub-basin of Ganga is the basin boundary of TBO so far as Hydrological and meteorological network is concerned. Sub-basin-wise details of the sites are as under:
