Library & Information Bureau, CWC

LIB, CWC is primarily a departmental reference library on the subject of Water Resources Engineering and other allied technical subjects. It has a collection of more than one lakh books and two and a half lakhs periodicals/journals, newsletters, bulletins & reports etc. The library receives important technical literature, newspapers/dailies and magazines from large number of organizations/publishers within India as well as abroad. The library subscribes to a large number of technical journals on various subjects of importance to Water Resources Development in general and some periodicals of importance to other allied subjects. The library also serves as a centralised acquisition unit for about fifty five mini libraries functioning in various directorates and administrative wings of CWC for reference to technical literature for day to day use in the directorate/units such as Indian standards/codes, manuals, important textbooks/handbooks and government publications etc.

The officers & staff of Central Water Commission are enrolled as members of the library on request and membership card is issued to borrow books from library. In addition to cater to the needs of CWC officials, bonafide users from other organizations are also allowed to use the library for reference purposes.

In order to disseminate information on respective topics, preparation of subject bibliographies for ready reference, circulation of technical journals and to provide information on recently acquired literature to the officers, a reference section/desk is also maintained in Library & Information Bureau. Computerisation of library is under process through C-DAC and twenty five thousand library records have already been entered in the computer system.

Working Hours & Reading Room Facilities

The library presently located in W.B – II, Wing No.-7, Gr. Floor, R.K Puram, New Delhi-110066 remains open on all working days during working hours from 9.30 AM to 6.00 PM. There is a fully air-conditioned reading room with a seating arrangement for 10-12 readers at a time. The library is likely to be shifted to its new building shortly, which is under final stages of construction. 

Since CWC library is a technical departmental library it is generally not open to the public However, bonafide users from other organizations are allowed to use the library for reference.
