Aditya Sharma joined Central Water Engineering Service (CWES-Gr-A)) in 1990 through Engineering Services Examination conducted by UPSC. Before joining CWES, he was associated with research work in water sector at National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee. He obtained his B.E. degree in Civil Engineering from NIT, Bhopal in 1986 and M.E. degree in Hydraulics and Irrigation from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee in 1990. Subsequently he obtained MBA degree in Financial Management through correspondence from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. Recently, he has completed PGDM (Financial Management) from National Institute of Financial Management (NIFM), Faridabad.
In his professional career in CWES, he has worked in various positions in Central Water Commission, Narmada Control Authority and Ministry of Water Resources. He has more than 25 years of work experience in different areas of water sector including, dam design, flood forecasting, flood management, water quality, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, investigation for water resources projects, inter-state matters, and human resource management (Recruitment and placement).
During his 6 years tenure in NCA, Indore he was instrumental in resolving Resettlement & Rehabilitation (R & R) problems of each and every individual Project Affected Person (PAP) in consultation with Government of Gujarat, Government of Madhya Pradesh and Government of Maharashtra.
During his 9 years tenure in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, he worked tirelessly for expeditiuos completion of Cammand Area Development programmes in upper reaches of Narmada main canal and branch canals by coordinating effectively between Central and State Government officers.
As Superintending Engineer, Planning Circle, CWC Faridabad he was responsible for organizing participation of Ministry of Water Resources, RD and GR and its various organizations in India International Trade Fare (IITF) at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from 2011 to 2014. The pavilion of MoWR, RD & GR was deeply appreciated by visitors and organizers during these years. To generate water awareness among masses, various activities including quiz competitions were organized for students.
He worked as Senior Joint Commissioner, Ministry of Water Resources, RD and GR and dealt with sensitive issues like Mulla Periyar dam, inter-state matters and drought situation in a large part of the country. He attended Short Term Training Course on “Water Resources Planning” at UNESCO-IHE, Delft, Netherlands during April, 2010. As a part of International attachment course of PGDM(FM) at NIFM, Faridabad, he attended two weeks training programme, with special focus on European Economy at ICPE (International Centre for Promotion of Enterprises), Ljubljana, Slovenia during January, 2017.
Presently he is working as Director-in-Charge, National Water Academy, Pune since 3rd August, 2017. He is working towards expanding the horizons of NWA in terms of reach, visibility, coverage & depth of content of its all activities. He is making special efforts in providing training to International participants, especially trainees from African and SAARC countries and also to explore new areas in water sector where training can be imparted to, in line with national water policy and to meet local and regional requirements.
